So I had heard about Pam/Tara becoming a thing on True Blood but I had stopped watching in s4 and never went back to finish the show so I never saw their storyline. But in my rewatch, I was mesmerized by the Pam/Tara storyline and how much chemistry they had together and I couldn't get enough of their scenes. I decided I had to make a treat for them and went looking for a song and after being frustrated for awhile, I finally found this one which captured some of the dom/sub aspects of their relationship which I enjoy so much. It was fun to vid as I love all their scenes and I only wish the show had done more storylines with them. I was glad to finally get a chance to vid Pam and if you're curious, you only need to watch S5 (Pam&Tara scenes) to enjoy the vid!

Title: Down The Rabbit Hole
Music: "Down The Rabbit Hole" by Adam Lambert
Fandom: True Blood S1-4
Focus: Lafayette/Jesus
Summary: Going down the rabbit hole
Content Notes: Physical triggers (e.g., epilepsy or migraine: strobe lights, bright lights, "stuttery" cuts between 2-3 stills), blood

So one of the main reasons I offered True Blood was because I was really sad to hear that the actor who played Lafayette, Nelsan Ellis had died as Lafayette was my favorite character and the main reason I watched True Blood (also Pam). I had always wanted to make a vid for him but never got around to it and so I thought this exchange was the perfect time to do so. I wanted to make a Lafayette character study vid but I really struggled with finding a song that encapsulated all of his character so I kept looking as I rewatched the show but only watched the scenes with Lafayette, Pam or something gay in it (inc Godric/Eric) which were really the best part of the show. I fell in love with Lafayette/Jesus all over again so when I couldn't find a song, I remembered I used to want to vid Adam Lambert's Down The Rabbit Hole to the show and realized the s4 magic/medium plot would work perfectly for it. Once I decided on the song, I struggled a little with making the vid until I realized I just needed to cut the song down and then I could just use all the pretty parts of the plot and it made vidding it a lot more fun and matched my recipient's request even more. In the end, I was happy to have made it but I still hope someday somebody will make an epic Lafayette vid because he deserves it.

What I Just Finished Reading
The House at Riverton by Kate Morton, narrated by Caroline Lee
Very enjoyable mystery/gothic history novel largely set in the 1920s. (I feel like Julien Fallows probably owes Morton money). I liked how the storylines intertwined and how each person's interest in the history changed how they saw it. The love triangle at the centre was probably the least interesting aspect, and I wish the story had had more focus on Grace, as the sections without her dragged a bit. Will read more by this author, in any case.

Bearista by Zoe Chant
Does what it says on the tin, though I could have used more coffeeshop UST, as those scenes were a highlight. However the main couple had great chemistry, and I liked how the heroine was strong, interesting and useful in a fight without being an action girl. Zoe is really good at heroines that feel real.
(I hope there's a sequel about Keegan and maybe a carpenter lady.)

A Long Day in Lychford (Lychford #3) by Paul Cornell
I really liked the emotion in this book, and how the characters were at odds for good reason. The feelings were very well conveyed, especially Lizzie's inability to connect with the other two. However, it felt a bit short to deal with all the themes it was trying to get in, and a lot of plot threads didn't feel resolved at all. Presumably they will be in the next one, but I wasn't left feeling like I'd read a whole story as I was with the first two. (Unless the fragmentation was itself a meta point.)

The End of Days by Jenny Erpenbeck, translated by Susan Bernofsky
I mean, it's a book in which the main character (and most of the other characters) dies repeatedly and often horribly, but it's just really pretty okay! I don't know what to say past wow, shiny about the writing and the structure and the themes, and it's just really meaningful! I want to learn German so I can read it in German.

What I'm Reading Now
Audio: In the middle of a Station Eleven reread, as I've been thinking about it recently. Still really good!

Paper: Theoretically, Beren and Lúthien, practically, not much.

What I'm Reading Next
Library book, probably Black Apple as it's due next.

I'm revisiting Yuletide source, taking a lot of notes, & contemplating my reading challenge parameters for next year. This year I've focused on women authors again, but lately I've been thinking about literary awards. Maybe next year I'll try doing the Pulitzer lists or something.

respiratory infection
Thanks for the good wishes re the cold. It's still lingering but I'm largely better. I'm still baffled that my body allowed a respiratory infection to happen at all. Maybe my allergic responses are relenting a little? *hopes*

Death of a Modern Wolf by J.B. MacKinnon for Hakai Magazine
Once feared, vilified, and exterminated, the wolves of Vancouver Island face an entirely different threat: our fascination, our presence, and our selfies.

This wolf essay is really worth a read. I've worked with similar problems here (and know many of the people interviewed for the article), and it really frustrating and sad. Fortunately, our local animal has so far come to a happier ending.

(On a related note, I'll post the quiz answers this afternoon.)

A beautifully drawn, honest coming-of-age memoir centered on the world of competitive skating. The drawings are fascinating and understatedly emotional. I read this fairly long graphic memoir in one sitting. Walden's social anxiety and coming out story are intensely relatable.

This author-artist is just 21, and I eagerly look forward to her future work.

Content notes: bullying, an incident of attempted sexual assault, dealing with homophobia

can anyone help me with a chrome browser issue? i followed online instructions regarding zoom but it is not applying my instructions. I also restarted the computer, and no dice.

I have Chrome zoom set to 125%, but when i load twitter and tweetdeck, it reverts to about 55% zoom. I have to adjust it with every page re-load. This doesn't seem to happen on random other websites, but I can't find anything within twitter that adjusts zoom.

ETA: went to tool bar, View --> actual size. This fixes the problem temporarily but does not save? I just had to do it again. This is just super annoying and frustrating!

Oh hey that's kind of cool: Mi'kmaq Grand Council flag symbol of change, acceptance for Indigenous Nova Scotians.

And they're adding an acknowledging the land bit in all their publications. Baby steps, but steps all the same. Good for you, Nova Scotia.

FUCK YOU, QUEBEC: Quebec set to pass law banning face coverings for anyone receiving public service — even a bus ride. (Couillard government will hold vote on Bill 62 aimed at establishing 'neutrality of the state.')

No, seriously, what is the matter with Quebec!? (I mean, I know the answer is "racism" but still, wow.)

Not Canadian, but cool: Black Panther trailer.

Conclusion: T'Challa's mom is SMOKING. I'm sorry. I'm shallow. (but she IS.)

I love sports movies. Absolutely love them. I know the tropes inside and out, and I will watch some absolute dreck to get my fix--don't ask me about 23 Blast, tis a sad tale told by an idiot. But it involved training montages and an underdog who won in the end, so can you really judge me? I posit that you cannot.

Tonight I'm watching Dangal based on meme's recommendation and I am just sobbing buckets for about the last twenty minutes straight. After the credits roll I go to [personal profile] bell for a hug because I am a weepy mess. She asks me what's wrong (like she doesn't know) and I say, "The main character was an underdog, but then she tried really hard, and she won, and then her dad was--" *voice breaking* "--proud of her!" (These are not spoilers, my friends. This is a sports movie.) So [personal profile] bell patted me on the back and said "there, there" and comforting things of that nature, and I sniffled and said, "It was a really good sports movie," and she was kind enough to only laugh at me a little.
