So, I toppled over on my bike today
Aug. 27th, 2019 07:30 pmI adjusted my seat height, tried to swing my leg over and massively failed. rescued me and took me to the ER. I was wearing a helmet, did not hit my head and was fine except for the 20 stitches. Photos under the cut. Warning: the wound is bloody and gruesome.
( Warning: Photos of a bad ankle laceration. There are blood and stitches visible. )

Dungeons and Dragons 5e at WisCon!
May. 20th, 2019 02:21 pmThis is the planning post for a planned D&D 5e game at WisCon. If there is interest, I can run more than one game. I DM for Adventurers League, so it will be a WOTC approved module (hi comfort zone!), but I'm not the kind of DM that runs everything to the letter. The rule of cool presides.
Scheduling:
The panels I'm going to are:
- Fri 230p-345p
- Sat 9p-1015p
- Sun 930a-12pish
- Sun 415p-515p
- Mon 830a-945a
- Mon 10a-1115a
Length of the game - I was thinking of a two hour game because it is a con and people probably want to you know, go to panels and see people. I can do 4 hours if people wanted. Thoughts?
Player level - do people want to play low tier (levels 1-4), mid tier (levels 5-10) or high tier (11-16)?
Character creation - have fun, play what race and class you want to from whatever source you want to. I'm thinking about magic items right now and will post more later after I clean my house and think about it.
Game stuff: I like RP, combat and use a battlemat (minis not needed, I have some and dice are a perfectly acceptable replacement). I don't run animal harm, torture, rape, non-con, sexual harassment, racism, transphobia, homophobia, fat shaming.
Comment here, or DM me here or on Twitter , whatever you feel most comfortable doing.

Lo, there be Dungeons and Dragons here
Apr. 30th, 2018 08:01 pmHave a lot of D&D next weekend due to Hero Camp! Two full days (9a-12a Sat and 9a Sun to 5p - 20 hours worth) of fun organized by the excellent folks who run the Adventurers League room at Gamehole Con. I'm trying to decide if I should go into the event with a DM in mind and try to muster for that table, or not plan at all and see what happens.
Whatever happens, I'm looking forward to playing We Are Grung! again with slightly more sleep and being significantly more sober than I was at GaryCon. Being a wee bit drunk will probably help me not remember everything that is going to happen and I'm going to play a different pre-gen this time.
My Sunday home game continues to be weird, wonderful and mind breaking. Our time traveling changed the present and we're currently dealing with a shit ton of time travel paradoxes. It is very complicated - we're all (characters and players) delightfully confused, especially the new person who just joined our game. As it stands now, they're the only one from the current timeline.
In other D&D news, I need make the DM plunge and run a game in person. DMs get nice AL rewards and other perks like going to a con for free if you've signed up to DM enough slots.

In short: I LOVE DUNGEONS AND DRAGONS. This game is easily the best thing that has come into my life in a long time and I'm grateful that my local D&D community is filled with friendly, non-gatekeeping, folk.

Fannish update
Mar. 30th, 2018 06:54 amMedia consumption: listening to a lot of the Sawbones podcast lately. Modern medicine is a gift compared to historical medicine! Also, don't drill a hole in your head.
I'm now two weeks behind on Critical Role, my plan is to catch up on at least one ep this weekend. Doesn't sound like a lot, but each ep is over 3 hours long. I love the characters in the new campaign SO MUCH that I can't pick a favorite. They are all each wonderful and adorable in their own way *squishes them close.* I like the old campaign with high level characters and 2+ years of home game backstory before they went live on the internet, but it is so much *fun* to watch characters start at level 1 and cohere as a group.
I may like Critical Role kind of a lot ;D
D&D: Ordered my home game mini from HeroForge! The DM is going to paint it once it gets here, it'll be nice to have a painted mini (all of mine are unpainted). She is a manticora alchemist/necromancer wizard, she's a little dark and that is a-okay with me!
( Pic of mini behind cut )
Have a lot of D&D to play today and tomorrow. Going over to someone's house this evening to play and back there again tomorrow to play another three-ish sessions. No online home game, which makes me sad as my ranger is now a ranger-war cleric and we're heading to the underdark.

Minor update
Mar. 18th, 2018 10:42 pmAlive and fannish again! Mostly about wonderful voice actor dorks who play D&D live on the internet - Critical Role. They're also the reason I've developed a thrice weekly D&D game habit <3<3<3
(I love them all so much and Matt's continued slight bewilderment at still being so popular after 3 years.)

I need a place to sleep for Thu, Fri and Sat night - anyone have space or know someone who has space? I know it is super late notice and if it doesn't happen, it doesn't happen. Especially since I still need to buy my membership....
ETA: Have thought about this all day, think I need to skip the con this year :( Have too much stuff to get done and need to save money. Next year, next year I will be there!
I've been extra distracted this year because of work and this little thing:

(not my pic)
Not renting, bought that sucker! (!!!!!!!) We closed on Jul 25 and has taken over most of my brainpan since the start of June. So much painting left to do and then pack up the apartment before Aug 27, gah.
Work continues apace, I still like my new position. Lots of responsibility, but I'm okay with that and I haven't done an overnight in almost a year! I've found out since I started that scheduling is one of my strong suits, it's like a jigsaw puzzle: there is nearly always a way to fit the pieces together to make it work (and I apologize to my staff even though none of you know my online name and never will, I value you as far more than puzzle pieces). I've also found that I really don't mind being on call, though I do feel a bit silly sometimes when I'm carrying three phones - personal cell, work cell and on call cell!
Just saw the time, off to work with me. I get to pick my hours, but I hate starting after 930.

Muskrat Jamboree 2015!

Apparently I now update about once a year. I need to work on that.
Life has been going good, Earl and Eva are hale and hearty (she's still a diva and he's still a lovable asshole). Crochet has become my fandom of choice along with yarn, there are some I just want to roll around naked in a bathtub with. I'm looking at you, Shibui Silk Cloud, I'm looking at you (even if you'd be annoying as fuck to frog) *tactile person checking in*.
I wrote a thing for Yuletide this year, Jeeves and the Rummy Stitch and got who's left and who's leaving by spuffyduds. It was lovely and hurt in all the right places. Thank you!!!!
VividCon was fun this year, very low key. I had a great time talking to people and look forward to next year.

YULETIDE, OMG!
Dec. 30th, 2012 07:50 pmJust squeaking in under the wire before reveals but I got the awesome fic, Jeeves and the Amatory Dilemma. 23k works of Jeeves/Wooster AWESOMENESS.
I don’t know if you have ever had your torso scraped with a butter knife by your valet. There is not much in the experience to recommend it. Particularly when you suspect said valet is not entirely happy with you, and so wields the implement with more vim than strictly necessarily.
Or, the tale of how Bertie and Jeeves finally Confessed All to each other, despite – or, possibly, because of – the passion-dampening affects of Giant Squirts, thwarted wrestling, unhappy boating, rabbits (both of the Luminous and Dream varieties), an aunt who breakfasts on the ground bones of nephews who displease her, and a pair of very natty yellow socks.
Thank you, thank you, thank you awesome writer who gifted me with this fic. It makes me so very happy, I've been asking for Jeeves/Wooster for every Yuletide since 2007. I really did make high pitched squealing noises and seal-clapped when I read it. :D :D :D
Another Yuletide fic that filled me with joy:
The Wanderer's Reply to the Seafarer (The Exeter Book). Poetry in Anglo-Saxon. POETRY IN ANGLO-SAXON. With footnotes! And a translation! I am in serious awe of this author.
Also, Teen Wolf seems to have eaten my brain over the last couple days. Haaalp.

House that Slash Built Reunion Weekend
Jun. 3rd, 2012 06:28 pmYesterday,
fairestcat and I showed
izzy ALL the Marvel movies (five movies in one day was a lot of fun but man, by the time we got to Captain America, we were all a little crispy fried around the edges). This morning, we went with a bunch of other people to go see Avengers in the theater before heading to a Lebanese restaurant and having tasty food. A very good time was had by all :D

YEAH! \o/!\o/!\o/!
May. 15th, 2012 09:23 amAssuming I pass the background check, I have a new job that starts Monday!!! IN MY ACTUAL FIELD, zomg! I'll be doing sample prep at Covance in Nutritional Food Chemistry Services, it's very entry level and I'm a bit overqualified for it and it's only temp through the end of the year, but it's a good starting point and OH MY FUCKING GOD, I FINALLY HAVE A JOB WHERE I CAN USE MY DEGREE! \o/! It only took me a year to get it (the fact that it was a phone interview probably helped, I get very nervous doing in-person interviews).
Because of a bunch of things, I'm going to have to keep working my current job for 3 weeks while working my new job, which means that I'll be a little crispy fried around the edges come Friday. But, the paychecks will be very, very nice and go some way to compensating working 70+ hours a week ;)
JOB! :D
